About the Aintree Festival
The Aintree Festival is one of the biggest events in the National Hunt racing calendar. Held over three days in April, the meeting features some of the best jumps racing in the world, culminating in the Grand National on Saturday.
Day 1: Opening Day (Thursday)
The Aintree Festival begins on Thursday with Opening Day. The feature race is the Aintree Hurdle, a Grade 1 contest over two miles and four furlongs. It is a great opportunity to get your festival started with some early winners. There are seven races on the card including competitive handicaps offering excellent each-way value. The card also features the Manifesto Novices' Chase and the Foxhunters' Chase.
Day 2: Ladies Day (Friday)
Friday is Ladies Day at Aintree, one of the biggest social occasions in the racing calendar. The feature race is the Melling Chase, a Grade 1 contest over two miles and four furlongs that attracts the top chasers in training. The Topham Chase is another highlight, run over the famous Grand National fences but at a shorter distance, and it provides a valuable guide to Saturday's big race.
Day 3: Grand National Day (Saturday)
Saturday is the day the world tunes in. The Grand National itself goes off at around 4pm and is the climax of three days of outstanding racing. With up to 34 runners lining up, each-way betting is king. Most bookmakers pay out on four or five places, giving you extra chances to land a return. The atmosphere at Aintree is electric and there is nothing quite like cheering home your selection over those famous fences. The supporting card includes the Maghull Novices' Chase and the Liverpool Hurdle.
