Our 2026 Preview

Who Will Win the Foxhunters Chase?

The Randox Foxhunters' Open Hunters' Chase takes place on Thursday 8 April and there's always a big field lining up. We will see the runners and riders battling it out over the Grand National obstacles, with the bookies offering lots of different betting options. To start with, there's the chance to bet on the race winner or alternatively go for an each-way bet.

Because the Foxhunters' has a big field, the Aintree betting sites are likely to offer extra places and you might find the bookies extend their each-way terms closer to the off. You are also likely to benefit from odds boosts, with some bookies even offering a Bet Builder option. Look out for markets such as Position Payout and Top Finishes too.

Barton Snow has been on a winning run. J J O'Shea's charge was the winner of the Hunters' Chase at Cheltenham, with the horse narrowly getting up to win over three miles, two and a half furlongs. It was the fifth successive victory for a runner who had previously claimed the spoils at Cheltenham, Stratford, Sheriff Hutton and Ludlow.

There's an older adversary who is trading at a similar price. Unexpected Party runs for Dan Skelton and the eleven-year-old was able to score as the 11/10 favourite at Taunton in early January. There was then a rock solid performance at Haydock Park in the middle of February where a Hunters' Chase success by nearly five lengths.

  Each-Way Contenders for Foxhunters'

Every other horse can be considered from an each-way point-of-view. Its On The Line was the winner of this encounter two years ago. The nine-year-old continues to be a strong performer in chases, with the runner doing well at Cheltenham in March. Sent off as the favourite in the Hunters' Chase, there wasn't much between him and Barton Snow.

There was previously a Boxing Day success at Down Royal when obliging over three miles, with the horse performing well to claim the spoils in this Aintree showdown two years ago. Perhaps the Emmet Mullins-trained horse could be the each-way bet to have at the odds.

Lets Go Champ is an Irish raider who comes into the race with solid credentials. There was an impressive showing to win a Hunters Chase over three miles and a furlong. That came on heavy ground and that demonstrates some excellent stamina. There was previously an eight-length victory in a three-mile open race and some customers will be wagering on the horse to place.

Golden Son opened the season with successive wins, with Paul Nicholls saddling an eight-year-old who was fourteen lengths off the pace at Cheltenham in the Foxhunters'. There could be improvement from a horse who finished fourth on that occasion, rewarding each-way punters. That came after Warwick and Taunton successes.

There will be the opportunity to place match bets where you can back a horse to outperform another runner. There are two horses trained by P M J Doyle who are operating at similar prices, with the first of these being Hunters Yarn. The nine-year-old has to be respected considering he's clocked up successive runner-up efforts.

Lifetime Ambition is another one from the Doyle stable worth looking out for. This eleven-year-old has been a hardy chaser throughout his career and the previous effort came at Thurles in January. Over three miles and a furlong on yielding ground, it was a runner-up spot and came after a novice riders victory at Turtulla.

The extra places being offered by the Grand National betting sites means that you can drill right down into the big outsiders in the hope of getting a return. Jet Plane is a ten-year-old trained by Dan Skelton who might run a game race. The horse was last seen running at Leicester after previously falling at Warwick at the end of January.

Music Drive is another interesting contender at a backable each-way price. Kelly Morgan trains a nine-year-old who was able to win on a seasonal debut when obliging at Cheltenham last May. Perhaps the runner is a spot of value considering that the 33/1 shot was a gallant third when running in the Foxhunters' Chase at the Cheltenham Festival.
